It is a Latin motto, "Dum spiro, spero." It was Cicero who said that, you can translate that as "As long as I breath, I have hope." Which is actually my view on life.
There is another one, which hits the nail on the head either, it is from one of my favorite German writers, Bert Brecht: "Wer kämpft, kann verlieren, wer nicht kämpft, hat schon verloren." "If you fight, you can lose. If you don't fight, you have lost already."
